At this time, Xugong was facing a severe test: neither raw materials nor production tasks; 70% of the new workers in the whole factory entered the factory for less than one year, and they learned the double hoe plough manufacturing technology, so that a large number of people could not arrange it; Backlog of semi-finished products and work-in-progress in double hoe ploughs; capital turnover is difficult ...

In 1957, XCMG began trial production of 2-6 ton tower cranes

In order to reverse the situation and solve the key problem of product-free production, XCMG boldly undertook the centrally allocated trial production of tower cranes while doing sporadic assembly in the first quarter of 1957.

To this end, XCMG set up a trial production office.

It was an era of hard work, rough equipment, insufficient raw materials, and shortage of life ... However, the most critical problem encountered by the trial production team was that many parts did not have complete design drawings. Faced with this situation, the older generation of XCMG technicians drew pictures day and night, at the desk, and groped slowly with almost zero technical reserves in the field of tower cranes.

Veteran technicians and workers also rely on their production experience to make suggestions and devote themselves to production. Dedication and solidarity from top to bottom made XCMG's trial production of the first tower crane proceed smoothly.

With this soaring drive, the "first" of tower cranes began to emerge. In the difficult years of “no special equipment but universal workers”, the first crane of XCMG, which had undergone more than three months of trial production, was finally successfully trial-produced on August 4, 1957, and put into mass production.

The first tower crane has just been trial-produced, and Xugong immediately put forward the goal of “improving the quality of tower cranes, meeting international standards, and catching up with international benchmarks”. All staff have been working on the problem continuously for more than 200 days, improved more than 20 kinds of milling tools, re-examined and corrected all the tyres and molds, mastered the temperature standard of rivets, and strictly implemented the process specifications of each process.

After continuous improvement and innovation, in May 1958, the tower crane finally achieved a high quality with a vertical deviation of less than 3 mm from the center point of the ground, exceeding the technical standard of 5 mm specified by international benchmark standards (then our national standard was less than 15 mm) .
