Viettel to invest in 3G mobile phone network in Tanzania

The head of the East African country said in his office on Tuesday: "Viettel, the basic telecom operator in Vietnam, plans to invest $1 billion in Tanzania for the new 3G mobile phone network." Tanzanian official said in a statement: “Viettel will invest USD 1 billion in Tanzania for telecommunications and other services, which will allow Tanzania’s second country, Peru, to acquire the most advanced telecommunications technology. Viettel will provide low-cost Smartphones, and free Internet access in schools, hospitals and offices.” Tanzania announced this month that it has approved mobile phone network provider Viettel and expects to launch its mobile service in July next year. Viettel will compete with the other four major operators.
