MAN wins two-stroke mainframe order for two Suez-type tankers
It is reported that each of the two 158,000 cubic meters crude oil ships will be powered by a MAN B&W 6G70ME-C9.5 two-stroke main engine integrated with an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system. A safe and automated control system will facilitate crew operations and correct engine load changes and react quickly.
Due to the need for lower speed engines to propel tankers and bulk carriers, MAN Diesel & Turbo thoroughly evaluated the possibility of using larger propellers after an efficiency optimization trend in the market. Since this type of vessel can be compatible with the larger diameter propellers used to date, efficiency can be improved after the design of the stern hull capable of installing a larger propeller.
This stern design with the G-Series engine is expected to save approximately 4% in fuel consumption with the same reduction in CO2 emissions. At the same time, with the latest engine processing parameters and design features, the engine itself can achieve high thermal efficiency.
