Formulating international standards for acupuncture needles is imperative

A few days ago, the Chinese Acupuncture Society and the World Federation of Acupuncture and Moxibustion Society jointly held the "Acupuncture Needle International Standard Project Launching and Draft Examination and Approval Conference" in Beijing. Experts at the meeting pointed out that an international standard for acupuncture needles with Chinese original characteristics and reflecting the current level of science and technology should be developed as soon as possible to ensure the safety of acupuncture treatment and improve the curative effect of acupuncture.
It is understood that as acupuncture and moxibustion medicine is widely accepted internationally, some developed countries have incorporated acupuncture into their medical security system, resulting in acupuncture needles becoming the most distinctive traditional medical medical device with high frequency of use and large market consumption. It is reported that only China and Japan have national standards for acupuncture needles. Japan issued the first national standard for acupuncture needles in 2005, but as early as 1980, China released the first national standard for acupuncture needles and revised it four times. But so far, there is no international standard for acupuncture needles. At the World Academic Conference on Acupuncture held in October 2007, some acupuncturists published the results of acupuncture needles on the efficacy of acupuncture, and questioned the quality of acupuncture needles circulating internationally.
Relevant experts pointed out that China has the responsibility to play a leading role in the development of international standards for acupuncture needles. China has the most mature acupuncture needle production technology, the largest group of acupuncture needle manufacturers and the largest group of acupuncture needle use, and has a solid theoretical and practical basis for the formulation of an international standard for acupuncture needles with China as its core. Experts stressed that in the formulation of international standards, it is necessary to unite multinational experts to jointly study and collaborate. Experts believe that the formulation of an international standard for acupuncture needles should actually be the beginning of the development of the entire series of international standards for acupuncture and moxibustion apparatus, and the standardization of acupuncture, the cultivation of talents and the promotion of technical standards have become a unified and integrated system engineering.
Acupuncture is an ancient and magical science. As early as the sixth century AD, acupuncture scholarship began to spread abroad. At present, in more than 120 countries and regions in Asia, Western Europe, Eastern Europe, and Latin America, acupuncture is used to treat people in their own country. Acupuncture treatment of 307 kinds of effective diseases, there are more than 100 kinds of significant effect. In 1987, the World Acupuncture and Moxibustion Federation was formally established in Beijing, and the status of acupuncture as a universal medicine in the world was established in the world's medical forest.
