US machine tool spending increased by 99.1% year-on-year in February 2011

In February 2011, the number of U.S. machine tool orders was 1,763, a decrease of 8.8% from 1,934 units in the previous month but an increase of 99.4% from the 971 units in February 2010. In February, the U.S. machine tool spending was 329 million U.S. dollars, a decrease of 10.9% from the previous month's 370 million U.S. dollars, but an increase of 99.1% from the 165 million U.S. dollars in February 2010. From the category of products, in February, the order quantity of metal cutting machine tools in the United States was 1657 units, which was a decrease from the previous month; the order quantity of metal forming machine tools was 106 units, which was a slight increase from the previous month. The consumption of metal cutting machine tools was US$304 million, a decrease of 10.5% from US$340 million in the previous month but an increase of 93.6% from US$157 million in February 2010. The spending on metal forming and manufacturing machines was US$25.32 million, a decrease of 15.6% from US$30 million in the previous month and a substantial increase of 207.2% from US$8.24 million in February 2010. From January to February of 2011, the consumption of metal cutting machine tools in the United States was US$644 million, an increase of 132.1% year-on-year; the consumption of metal forming and manufacturing machine tools was US$55.52 million, which surged 239.5% year-on-year.

AMT chairman Douglas K. Woods pointed out: "Since 2011, the significant increase in consumption over the same period has shown that US manufacturing is revitalizing.
