UK launches first "pay-as-you-go" charging system for electric vehicles

Recently, POD Point, the UK's largest electric vehicle charging facility company, launched the country’s first “pay-as-you-go” charging system for electric vehicles. Consumers do not need to open a network to pay for text messages and charge electric vehicles.

According to the US autoevolution website, POD Point's charging system is based on Oyster PAYG, and consumers need to pay a £10 deposit (refundable) to activate their account. Most office workers and tourists who own electric cars can enjoy the convenience of this system.

According to Erik Fairbairn, president of POD Point, the existing charging facilities in the UK are relatively fragmented. Even if they are not used, consumers are required to pay high monthly charges for charging services. After this nationwide “pay-as-you-go” charging system appears, consumers can use it at any time and pay at any time, benefiting a lot.

At present, POD Point has built 200 charging piles equipped with this charging system in the UK. It is expected that more than 750 such charging piles will be completed before the end of this year. By the end of 2014, the number of “pay-as-you-go” charging piles will exceed 4,000.
