Toyota Motor Corporation has announced its production and sales plan for FY2016. The company has not changed its global sales forecast this year, and its sales forecast for next year is also relatively flat.
In the past three years, Toyota has been the world's highest-selling car company, and it was overtaken by Volkswagen Group in the first half of this year. However, the latter was affected by the emissions gate incident in September, and sales growth slowed down.
Toyota said that its sales this year will be about 10,098,000, and it will reach 10,114,000 next year. Sales in the major markets, the US and Japan, are not expected to increase significantly. The emerging markets that have continued to grow over the past few years are also likely to be calm. For example, new car sales in Thailand and Indonesia are not satisfactory in the near future.
Toyota expects that the company's sales performance in FY2016 will be relatively flat, basically the same as FY2015, and even the international market outside Japan may experience a decline.
Toyota’s global sales last year were 10.23 million, Volkswagen was 11.14 million, and GM was 9.92 million. Before being surpassed by Toyota in 2008, GM was the world's highest-selling car company for seven consecutive years.
