Emerson Introduces CSI 9210 Mechanical Device Transmitter

First realization of intelligent mechanical state management in the industrial field

Give operators a new understanding of the health of their machinery and improve their effectiveness and performance

Beijing, China (January 17, 2006) — Emerson Process Management announces the launch of the CSI9210 Mechanical Status Transmitter. This new instrument is the basis for the health management of plant machinery, using new digital automation technology to improve the operation and maintenance of the equipment, effectively avoiding unplanned parking.

The Mechanical Health Sensor is an important extension of Emerson's PlantWeb® digital plant architecture. By monitoring and analyzing the health of rotating equipment by embedding predictive diagnostic software in smart meters, the instrument can transmit operational information to operations and maintenance personnel to prevent Production disruption.

The CSI 9210 Mechanical Condition Transmitter is the first intelligent FOUNDATION fieldbus instrument to diagnose motor and pump bearing failures, misalignment of the coupling, electrical problems with the motor, cavitation and imbalance of the pump.

The cost of unplanned parking is high, causing a loss of $1 million per day in some industrial sectors. Industrial surveys show that a typical process plant has 2,500 machines, 60% of which are made up of motor pumps, and factory accidents caused by mechanical failures account for 43%1. Emerson is targeting the most basic equipment in the chemical, oil and gas, power, paper and pulp and other industries - motor pump machinery.

John Rezabek, a control expert at ISP Chemicals in Ohio, said: "The CSI9210 mechanical status transmitter provides real-time forecasts for operators when equipment problems are emerging. If upstream pressure, flow rate changes, or combined causes of shock or cavitation Occurs, it can be adjusted to prevent problems from occurring."

“We are very excited to introduce a mechanical status transmitter that will increase plant availability and bring significant economic benefits to users,” said Emerson Process Management President John Berra. “This is through the use of open, digital intelligence and forecasts. Another important step in diagnosing features to improve plant performance."

The new device uses a built-in analysis engine to pinpoint potential failures. This information is transmitted to the Process Automation System and AMSTM Suite device management portfolio through the FOUNDATION fieldbus protocol: Intelligent Device Management System Predictive Diagnostic Software, which provides users with an efficient way to obtain real-time status information from motor pump devices. With this real-time information, operators can easily view the status of rotating equipment, get information about machinery and take steps to improve plant availability and performance.

Motor pump equipment has traditionally only occasionally monitored and repaired after failure. By transmitting the real-time status information of the motor pump equipment to the process automation system and equipment management combination system through the CSI9210 mechanical status transmitter, the performance of the plant can be greatly improved. With this real-time information, operators can easily view the status of rotating equipment, get information about machinery and take steps to improve plant availability and performance.
