The Ministry of Environmental Protection recently reported that after inspections, the 31 major provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the Central Government and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, as well as 8 central enterprises including PetroChina, Sinopec, Huaneng, Datang, Huadian, Guodian, Yuandian Power Investment, and Shenhua have achieved annual major pollution. The total amount of emission reduction targets passed the assessment.
It is reported that the assessment was organized by the Ministry of Environmental Protection in conjunction with the National Bureau of Statistics and the National Development and Reform Commission, which was aimed at reducing the total amount of major pollutants discharged by the provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities, and eight central enterprises in 2014.
The assessment notice pointed out that in 2014, the country’s total discharge of chemical oxygen demand amounted to 22.946 million tons, which was a year-on-year decrease of 2.47%; the total amount of ammonia nitrogen emissions was 2.385 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 2.9%; and the total amount of sulfur dioxide emissions was 19.744 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 3.4%; The total amount of nitrogen oxide emissions was 20.78 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 6.7%. The pollutant emissions of the four pollutants decreased by 10.1%, 9.8%, 12.9%, and 8.6%, respectively, compared with 2010. Chemical oxygen demand and sulfur dioxide have already completed the “Twelfth Five-Year Plan†ahead of schedule. Ammonia nitrogen is nearing completion, and nitrogen oxides emission reduction exceeds.
