International Online Special Paper: According to the report of Japan’s “Asahi Shimbun†on October 28th, researchers from Japan’s Osaka University and Professor Nagasaki Hideo developed a new testing device . The device detects instantaneously whether a liquid in a plastic container or a can-like container is a dangerous liquid . It is reported that the device can detect flammable materials and explosives and can prevent terrorist attacks.
According to the report, the device is used by placing the object of detection between two detectors. The detector emits a light beam and displays the result of the judgement by turning on the red or green light. The result will also be displayed on a portable display. It is reported that the detection time of common liquids such as water is within 1 second, and the detection time of special liquids is only 5 seconds. The device can be installed anywhere.
The basic principle of the device is to investigate the characteristics of the liquid when it absorbs light and to summarize the data. The test is checked against the database to determine the liquid composition. In the case of an opaque container such as an aluminum can container, a method of judging by touching the container surface with a sensor is used. This device has the same detection rate as the world-class standard and has been tested at Narita Airport for a month.
It is reported that explosives detection equipment used at airports around the world is very large and takes a long time to detect. When a domestic flight in Japan tests liquid items in carry-on baggage, it is limited to detecting whether it is flammable. If it is possible to judge several liquid types within a short period of time, it is expected to shorten airport security waiting time.
