Daqing “Development of Underbalanced Drilling Equipment” project was successful

The Daqing Petroleum Administration Bureau-level project—the “Development of Equipment for Underbalanced Drilling Equipment” project has been successfully tested by field tests. This has positive significance for localization of high-stress level underbalanced drilling equipment and reduction of underbalanced drilling costs.

China's high-stress level underbalanced drilling equipment and its wearing parts and spare parts have been relying on imports in the past, with high production costs and long maintenance intervals, which affect the production of underbalanced drilling. To this end, Daqing Bureau identified the drilling equipment for the development of independent intellectual property rights as a bureau-level top-level design project in September 2002. The project aims to develop rotary blowout preventers, liquid-gas separators, ignition devices and rotary protection for underbalanced drilling. The sprayer test and inspection device is the main one, and the specific work is undertaken by the Drilling Group Drilling Engineering Technology Research Institute.


Due to the wide scope of the project, technical difficulty and heavy workload, the Engineering Technology Research Institute has organized scientific research personnel to determine various technical indicators and research contents on the basis of extensive research on the status quo of domestic and foreign technology. After three years of painstaking research, it has finally overcome more than a dozen technical problems such as high temperature resistance of the ignition head insulator and low separation efficiency of the liquid-gas separator, and the test success has been achieved.


The field data proves that the maximum static sealing pressure of the equipment for underbalanced drilling is 35 MPa, the maximum dynamic sealing pressure is 17.5 MPa, and the cumulative working life of the single rubber core is over 80 hours, which meets or exceeds the technical specifications of similar foreign products. The utility model has the advantages of stable performance, high reliability, convenient operation, novel design and uniqueness, and basically meets the design requirements.

The successful test of the project provided a strong technical guarantee for improving the technical level of underbalanced drilling in Daqing Oilfield and further exploring domestic and foreign markets.
