Bridgestone recently announced that in order to enhance its competitiveness in the global market, the company will reorganize its steel cord manufacturing business in Japan and plans to close a steel cord factory in September 2014.
Bridgestone currently has two steel cord manufacturing plants in Japan, located in Japan's Kuroiso and Saga. In order to increase the production efficiency of Japanese factories, Bridgestone will transfer the production of steel cords from the Blackrock Plant to the Saga Plant. This project will be launched immediately and is expected to be completed by the end of September 2014. At that time, the Blackosite Factory will is closed.
Bridgestone said that in order to strengthen the competitiveness and overall profitability of the Black Rock factory, the company has taken a series of measures. However, due to the increasing competition in the steel cord industry and the continued low competitiveness of the Black Rock factory, Bridgestone finally made a decision to close the plant.
The Black Rock Factory has a long history and was put into operation as early as 1971. The current total number of employees is about 350. The factory area covers an area of 349,000 square meters. It can produce 47,000 tons of steel cord every year. In addition, it can also produce 6,200 tons of rubber hose wire and 29,000 tons of tire wire every year.
